OVERVIEW

Mitsubishi Motors is part of a large multinational
corporation involved in various industries worldwide including machinery, chemicals, metals,
energy as well as aerospace development programs,
aviation, ocean liners, data communications and computers to
name a few.
With origins dating back to 1917, Mitsubishi Motors
Corporation has evolved through multiple partnerships and alliances
with companies such as Chrysler and
more recently DaimlerChrysler, Volvo, Hyundai, and Peugeot / Citroen.
Mitsubishi commenced its involvement in motorsport with small
rear engine saloon vehicles before expanding into rally events
and Group A touring car racing in the 1980’s with the turbocharged
Mitsubishi Starion. Well known for its success on the World
Rally Championship, the Lancer Evolution dominated proceedings
with four World Championships on the trot from 1996 to 1999
in the hands of rally ace Tommi Mäkinen. More impressive though
has been Mitsubishi’s brilliant dominance of the Dakar Rally
winning the Endurance Rally an unprecedented seven times in
a row between 2001 and 2007 with the Ralliart prepared Mitsubishi
Pajero.
Much of the success Mitsubishi has achieved in motorsport can
be attributed to its performance arm Ralliart, which developed
components and prepared vehicles for Mitsubishi’s racing activities.
The development of these components trickled down to road going
models such as the Lancer Evolution range and the Pajero.
