Lancer Evolution IX MR

OVERVIEW

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII was the first “EVO” specially built to suit regulations for the 2001 World Rally Championship (WRC) season. Retaining the potent two litre DOHC turbocharged four cylinder 4G63 motor, the new Evolution VII for the first time featured an Active Centre Differential and the GT-A variant was released with automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi’s Active Centre Differential, still found in the Evolution X today, was used by rally champion Tommi Mäkinen to steer the Mitsubishi Evolution VII to within three points of the 2001 World Rally Championship drivers title.

In 2004 the Mitsubishi Evolution VIII added new technology to control power to the four wheel drive system with Super Active Yaw Control. Using the same CT9A platform, the Evolution VIII was released with a different body kit than its predecessor plus Enkei wheels, Brembo brakes and Bilstein shock absorbers. The Evolution VIII was the first Evolution model to be sold to the American domestic market.

Unveiled in 2005, the Mitsubishi Evolution IX was the final performance variant of its kind to be fitted with the 4G63 motor. With the Evolution IX, Mitsubishi introduced its innovative variable valve timing technology, MIVEC as well as a revised turbocharger design making it the most powerful Evolution built.

    Further gains in power, torque, throttle response and increased RPM, turning the 4G63 into the ultimate four cylinder weapon of choice. This package has been designed to unleash the true potential of what is basically a standard bottom end.
